National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains
The National Centre for Missing Persons and Unidentified Remains (NCMPUR) is Canada's national centre that provides law enforcement, medical examiners and chief coroners with specialized investigative services in support of missing persons and unidentified remains investigations.
As part of its operations, the NCMPUR:
- manages the national Missing Children/Persons and Unidentified Remains (MC/PUR) Database, which includes data on missing persons and unidentified remains investigations from across the country
- provides investigational advice and specialized analysis to law enforcement and coroners/medical examiners
- manages the national public website Canada's Missing, to provide information on selected cases to the public for the purposes of seeking tips on investigations
- provides enhanced specialized services to investigators of primary jurisdiction such as support for international child abductions and general missing persons and unidentified cases, and manages the Travel Reunification Program
- coordinates the National Amber Alert working group for Canadian police agencies
- researches and compiles investigative best practices and develops training for police officers
- provides investigators with access to the National Missing Persons DNA Program and authorizes the submission of DNA to the national databank
The NCMPUR resides within the RCMP's Sensitive and Specialized Investigative Services branch.
